If you’re an intermediate rider coming to Derby Vertigo’s Blue Tier + Atlas day is a MUST! Shuttle access to 35 kilometres of remote wilderness enduro single track through incredible scenery departing Derby at 9am with most riders getting back to town around 3pm. Starting in the high alpine riders will descend into lush myrtle forest, green mossy rivers, and dense eucalyptus trees all along all-time intermediate flow trail. After 19km of 30% climbing and 70% descending the Blue Tier ends at the Weldborough Pub where most riders choose to buy lunch. Then a second shuttle takes riders to Atlas which is an advanced intermediate trail with 30% climbing and 70% descending over another 16km of beautiful purpose-built adventure trail. Confident intermediate riders will enjoy the more technical features on Atlas. After the Blue Tier you can choose to take the shuttle to Atlas or take a return shuttle to Derby.

The newest jewel in Tasmanian Mountain biking: BLUE TIER TO BAY OF FIRES! Come and join us and experience this must ride adventure. The Blue Tier overlooks the world renowned destination coastline know as the Bay of Fires. Start your 42km ride with a stunning view to the coastline below and the destination of your ride. This single track trail takes you through the diversity of blackwood and myrtle forests, giant granite boulders to coastal eucalypt and grass tree landscapes, ending at the stunning beaches of Tasmania’s east coast.
Prepare for changes in weather, cold/wet conditions on Blue Tier and very hot on the coastal half of trail. Carry plenty of water (min 3 Litres), along with trail snacks/gels etc Bring your swimming wear. Hire a 2020 Specialized Levo e-bike for the day from us, particularly if you are not very fit.
Fitness: Moderate to High Rider Suitability:This trail is 43 km and for experienced mountain bikers only. You need to be well prepared, fit and able to ride blue intermediate features for a number of hours. You will be riding through remote Tasmanian mountain areas with limited or no easy access should you have an injury. This Shuttle service departs from Derby for the Blue Tier trail. The Blue Tier is a stunning ~18km mountain bike adventure trail, flowing down through sub alpine plains, Myrtle Beech forests, idyllic mossy rivulets, groves of giant tree ferns, flowing directly onto the epic section called Big Chook descent. Big Chook is the lower section of this trail with an all descending super flow berm, turns and jump line trail through deep Tasmanian temperate rainforest, finishing behind Weldborough Hotel where you may purchase lunch before shuttle return to Derby. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Rider Level: MTB experience on Blue Trails through to Intermediate and Advanced The Blue Tier Trail is rated Intermediate as it is long and commands both physical and mental attentiveness, traversing and descending through remote Tasmanian Wilderness. Not for beginners or first time MTB riders, as it is remote and emergency access can be difficult. We recommend you take an emergency beacon or utilise your Blue Derby app, smart phone app in case of serious injury. Fitness Level: Moderate Fitness is a minimum
FIRST DAY HIRE BIKES booked on the same day as this service: Please collect your bike from the VertigoMTB shop located at 66 Main Street Derby from 8am (8:30am during winter months) on the morning of your hire. Allow time for us to set up the bike for you and supplied with appropriate ride equipment in our workshop. Vertigo’s Bay of Fires 13km Descent + Blue Tier + Atlas Adventure Ride The Blue Tier overlooks the world renowned destination coastline know as the Bay of Fires. Start your ride with a stunning view to the coastline below and roll into incredible single track descending through beautiful tree ferns, big berms, and all-time flow. The famous Blue Tier loam will have you grinning uncontrollably for 13 outstanding kilometres of single track. Shuttle back to the top of the Blue Tier and ride the famed 23km Blue Tier Trail to the Weldborough Pub, for a celebratory lunch stop in the beer garden. Part 3, another shuttle will take you to the Atlas Trailhead for a final blast down to Derby, (or a return to Derby in the bus)

Recommended for Intermediate to Advanced Riders The shuttle runs every hour. 9:30 – 10:30 – 11:30 or 1:30 – 2:30 – 3:30 So the first two shuttle uplifts you will need to choose trails that will get you back to the bottom in time to meet the next shuttle – which there are quite a few options, and your driver can assist you with this. On the third uplift you can choose to climb up the Snig Track (about 30 minutes) and ride Kings Wall an 8 kilometre intermediate adventure flow trail or ride Dambusters from the shuttle drop off, which is a scenic 9 kilometre trail that wraps around the Cascade Damn and finishes with a fast, bermy, descent. Shuttle To Branxholm to ride the Valley Pond trail back to Derby. It’s the best trail in Derby to earn your first MTB stripes.
